The Fawn
by Koye Berry
The Fawn
Unheeded warning:
An echoing
Cry connecting us for a moment;

My turn from the fright,
The eighteen wheels,
Annihilation with merciful,

Merciful swiftness;
Recognizing
An imitation of our kinship

In the wild gallop,
The unschooled eyes---
Something natural and something young

Crushed under the wheels.
Given the choice
I would feel nothing, least of all love.
