Poetry
Southpaw
by Koye Berry
I played right field because it was safe
From everyone but you
Who would laugh at my attempts at foreign language like the children we were.

And "childhood friends" is the term we'll use
Because it fits
And because childhood was all the time we needed.

I used to see you as a Hollywood celebrity---
I used to make backstories---
And I was sure one day you'd go back

To where the stars hang out
And we all wish we were you.
And so you have.
