Be On The Lookout
by J. Bowers
--because all over America,
fat black widow spiders
are being found crouched insidiously
within taut bunches of seedless red grapes,
grown in Cuba.
Knowing this,
I picture you lying in bed
with her beside you, her
skinny arms curled insidiously
around your crooked ribcage--
perhaps there is a wet coffee mug
standing empty on your nightstand--
perhaps it held some seedless red grapes,
grown in Cuba,
And perhaps you have, innocently, just eaten them--
while her slim ripe foot dangles insidiously
off the edge of your bed,
and she has forgotten to wear her socks--
