Well, Scott B's gf and I rented out the top floor of the Patterson for his last birthday.

It was pretty cool... I think it was $200 for 2 hours (definitely in that neighborhood) and there's probably 6-8 lanes up there, so you could easily accomodate 20+ bowlers and bring the cost down under $10/pop. I don't think shoes were included.

The one drawback was that there's an employee there who LIVES for such parties, and eats into your time with a 15-min+ lecture about do's and don'ts while using the lanes, mostly really common-sense shit, and peppers it with lame jokes. He also hangs out while you bowl, and he came across as a borderline creepy dude.

Still, it was a fun time, and I think it may be your only option for this sorta thing with Seidel's closed.

Try the Patterson Bowling center on Eastern Ave.  We had a release party there with the Degenerettes.  Also, there's a place on Bel Air Rd. if I'm not mistaken, Seidel's(?) that might still be open that Skizz used to bring the visiting filmmakers too during the MCF.

Seidels was the best (R.I.P. sniff!).

I agree with Onetet's description of Patterson... that guy is creepy and almost makes it worth not going there.  Plus if you get too many people upstairs, it starts to feel pretty cramped.  Stoneleigh on York Road towards Towson is alright, though the decor feels very 80s and they have "Freedom Fries" on the menu (they just got a BoB award).  Hillendale is also alright... they have both duckpin and regular bowling, and there's a lot of space.  There's another big one in a shopping center in Parkville that I like because it would take plenty of people to make it feel cramped and there's plenty of parking.

Rustbelly, at any of those other places do you get a whole seperate area for your party? That's the one thing that does make the Patterson seem pretty ideal. And you can definitely BYOB, etc.

Hmmm, thanks for the advice!!  I will def look into it.  I'm also considering ripping off a bday party I went to this summer....renting out the sound proof balcony/boxes at The Senator.  It's BYO there!!!  I need to figure out what films will be out in early November though.

Yeah, the private room aspect of Patterson's upstairs is a selling point.  Stoneleigh is small enough that you could rent out the entire place.  But Hillendale and Parkville are both rather large.  Seidels was sort of in between, and rentable.

I wouldn't say creepy, just fucking extremely chatty with going over the rules. Seriously dude takes up 1/4 of your time explaining rules.

Seriously, I've been to three bowling parties, 2 upstairs, 1 downstairs
and the guy has never done a single "creepy" thing at all. Is it because
of his haircut or his acid-washed jeans that this label gets put on him?
He's watching people coz they're in his place of business and he wants
to make sure drunks don't fuck up his livelihood. That's how I take it.
That and he's really chatty. And when you bring in the wrong kind of
alcohol (hard liquor) he's very polite about asking you to put it away.
