Seriously, people, buy the shirts. Tell your friends. Joyce needs money. She's thrilled with the design. I'm sure Jeff would be, too. Don't forget that Jeff has a black shit DMFS tattoo on his chest, and Joyce has a "I Was Gang Raped By The Dirty Marmaduke Flute Squad" tattoo on her shoulder. Being in poor taste is what they were all about.

Michael, it's astonishing to me that as a Baltimore music writer you don't give a damn about Jeff or Joyce or the music Jeff worked so hard to promote. Al is the only one at the City Paper who does any in-depth coverage on the non-pretentious, non-Pitchfork-covered Baltimore music scene. Had you even been to a show that Jeff taped aside from the 10 minutes you spent at The Depot for your puff piece on him?

I'm trying to help someone in a manner that upholds the spirit and character that we've come to associate with them. Joyce is alive but not able to work. She needs help, and I'm stepping up and doing something.

Michael, if you have a better way to help her out, with all of that City Paper traction behind you, then by all means please go ahead and do it. I'll be the first one to sign on to whatever you come up with. Seriously, I would love for you to prove me wrong.

it's not the intent behind the shirts, it's the callous and clueless way you presented your pitch.

perhaps as you say the style of your pitch was totally suggested and approved of by the people who it most directly affects, but many people on this messageboard were emotionally affected by the shooting, and a jovial, jocular, joking tone is only naturally going to be seen as unpleasant. sure , people might be more uptight than necessary, but surely you, 37.5, must have known the way you worded your first post in the thread would garner negative attention.

That marked the first time I ever got insanely pissed--for real pissed, not just message board pissed--at something on the Internet.

Michael, instead of pointlessly trolling here, why not use your clout at The City Paper to organize a big benefit show? I'm sure you could get some great bands to sign on. It would be much better than anything DMFS and the MT6 guys could whip up.

If anyone else would like to help but doesn't feel like buying one of our awesome shirts, per Joyce's request could you at least call Carole Burrell @ 410.825.6558? She's the apartment manager at Towson Crossing Apartments and is giving Joyce and her family 30 days to vacate because of the crime and because Jeff wasn't on the lease. Joyce has always paid her rent on time, so that's not the issue. I'm sure any good word might help, and if enough people call maybe she'll let Joyce stay just to avoid bad publicity (hint, hint, Michael). You can also fax a letter to 410.825.6559 or mail it to Towson Crossing Apartments 34 Dowling Circle Baltimore, MD 21234.
