You best be damn sure that you get the magic book and crystal ball on your way through, otherwise you CAN'T WIN THE FUCKING GAME.

Many an afternoon of my childhood was wasted with Bub and Bob and their cheap chicanery. Embarrassed

All I gotta say about Bubble Bobble is that one level....that one level where you have to fucking jump on your own bubbles, while blowing them precisely at the same time, to hop all the way up to the top part of the level, which consists of a high ledge at the top of the stage, with one opening in the middle and the angry guys you got to kill marching back and forth on that top ledge.  HOURS, FUCKING HOURS trying to beat that pointless sense of shit.

I'm going to sound old but the one game that made me not leave the house and play with my friends (I was 9 or so) was WASTELAND for the IBM.

also in high school I'd purposefully go to bed at 10pm just to wake up at 3am to use the dialup on my brother's modem to play MUDs on his College Account.

this graduated into me skipping early college classes to do marathon sessions of Diablo II and later, Counterstrike.

This culminated to me spending way too much time on World of Warcraft the first month it came out such that I feel like it ended my relationship w/ my then live in girlfriend.

yeah.....

Earthbound. That game was made of crack. And this, before I discovered recreational substances... Cry

I hate E3.

If have the developers spent as much time on the game as they did on those trailers, I'd be saved a lot as far as shit gameplay.

Gran Turismo ......S-Class license is a bitch.

only person to state this? i never thought i'd be concerned about milliseconds playing a racing game.

other answers to the original question:

All the King's Quest games. These took a lot of time just because you had to wait for each screen to draw itself. When I was a child, I literally chose my friends based on the game systems they had. If they had a Macintosh AND King's Quest, they were in the top tier of friends. My best friend had a COLOR Apple hooked up to his TELEVISION.

Many high school nights were spent playing all the EA Sports games...Madden, Bill Walsh (RIP), PGA Tour, FIFA, NHL....even the Rugby game. We recently hooked the Genesis up at a friends house, popped in PGA Tour and all our old names and ranks were still in memory (from over a decade ago).

Half-Life, Gran Turismo and Tony Hawk dominated in college.

Ocarina of Time. I was home from college for the summer, delivering pizzas. Was always psyched to get off work to continue this. I also got my first CD-R drive that summer. I don't think I went out much.

I don't play anything these days. I bought Shadow of the Colossus, but got bored after a day and gave it to my brother. I bought my girlfriend a USB SNES controller for her MacBook and I'll occasionally pick it up and load some old ROM, but I usually end up just playing Super Mario Bros.

I just dropped $30.00 via Steam for this game called S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. It's supposed to be a combination of FPS, survival, horror, and open-ended sandbox adventure with RPG elements for kicks... sounds ambitious, but I'm genuinely intrigued.

I wish I had time and computing power to play that game. It deals with my twin obsessions of Chernobyl and the film Stalker (which have nothing to do with each other in the realm of facts but have a real resonance).

I'm surprised at how demanding it is spec-wise... they say that even mid-range rigs can run the game without any problems, but even with a 3.25ghz P4, 1GB RAM, and a 256MB ATI video card, I get some noticeable slowdown/stuttering, esp. during in-game thunderstorms. Dynamic lighting and strobe effects are not a happy combination.

Even so, the game's open-endedness is really intriguing so far. It's very GTA-ish in the sense of having to talk to NPCs to take on assignments ("go fetch, and I'll give you money/item/info/etc.") in order to advance, but it's really free-form in that respect. I.e., you could be ordered to retrieve a valuable artifact for an NPC, then screw 'em and keep it for yourself with no apparent penalties. Or, the military could stage a random raid on your present base of operations, during which they kill the guy who gave you your last assignment, thereby nixing the whole deal. On the plus side, helping the local NPCs to repel the raiders netted me some fairly potent swag in the form of an AK-74su. Here's hoping the damn thing doesn't break from overuse—or, that I'll be able to find someone who's hocking the proper ammo... post-apocalyptic market scarcity is a pain in the ass.

Everyone that I help ends up dying at the hands of the Russian military! Right now, I'm cornered in a bombed-out research building, surrounded by 6-8 heavily-armed Spetnaz who killed the guy that I had just rescued from one hell of a firefight. Not to mention that I'm low on 5.56mm ammunition for my AN-94. Hypothetically, I could sneak out while they're busy patrolling the perimeter, but I've a sound-suppressed pistol and plenty of 9mm ammo. Methinks it might be time for a little Solid Snake-style stealth-action. Wink
