Floristree-May 22, 2009

Nice set, though it was marred by technical difficulties towards the end (between “Broken Tides” and “Sad Songs”) that had the band and audience standing around for a little over 8 minutes (I mercifully cut that). Odd choice as opener for Double Dagger’s CD Release show at Floristree, though I thought the music throughout the evening was very good from start to finish (Video Hippos was sandwiched between the two).

Typical Floristree show (packed) and typical Floristree crowd (3/4 are there for the music and to have a good time, 1/4 are there to have a good time). The Air Waves set is heavy on the chatter.

The Double Dagger set will show up at Aural States soon. The Video Hippos set will show up on Beatbots soon as well.

ET opened the show, followed by one song by Al Great. While it was great to see both of these bands again, I’m getting real tired of coming out to tape rap shows where the acts play 12 minutes and leave thinking they gave the audience everything they had. I takes me longer than 12 minutes to take a crap and I’d think bands don’t really find their groove until ten minutes into a set.

Still, ET (actually, more the band they come from, Unison Collective) has been among my fave Bmore rap acts for several years and Al Great totally killed it when I saw him first last year, so any opportunity to check out these acts, regardless of how long they play, is a welcome treat for me.
