About a year or so back, Bob Keal (of local thrash folk rock Small Sur) wrote on the Beatbots Message Board that he felt Vincent Black Shadow was the best rock band out of Baltimore. I disagreed then and I still disagree today, though based on this show I wouldn’t hesitate to say that Vincent Black Shadow is among my Top 5 favorite local bands (don’t confuse “favorite” with “best“…I have no idea who the best bands are). About the only negative thing I can say about this set is that I’m not feeling their love of spitting. For some reason the bassist spent most of the set spitting, not for practical purposes, but, rather, for show. Also, it’s one thing if the band spits on each other, but when they start spitting on the audience, it’s time to come up with a different schtick.
Note for my mother: Don’t bother listening to this one, I know you won’t like it.

hey man, sorry about the spit shower. usually we play on the floor (even at sonar) and me and adam have to form a line of defense so that amps and drums don’t get knocked over and pedals don’t get stomped and shit don’t get unplugged et cetera. spit is like bows and arrows in our war against not-having-fun, and in that kinda setting it’s usually reciprocated with much beer spillage, shared sweat and more spit (like at that rager at the bank and the jam with byop at disgraceland as well as many nerve center shows and so on and so on). next time i’m on a stage i’ll just swallow like a good girl should!!!
