This was a house show.
The constant drone is from the amp, not the recorder.
*the metallic sound at 1:06 is a metal strip on the floor
^squeak at 0:25 is one of several sounds a door makes opening
^tapping at 0:37 is the sound a small dog makes walking

One of the better sets of the evening, I thought…while Treevahs now calls Pittsburgh home, it’s a treat when he comes back to Baltimore to play solo or with Good Guise (folkish jamband-like). I had the pleasure of seeing Treevahs play solo once before, earlier this year, but I had a problem recording that night and, as a result, didn’t capture his performance that evening. Thankfully there was no repeat of problems on this night…it’s a very short set, but it’s well played with beautiful lyrics. Before Church Bells, Treevahs tells the audience that he just learned of the death of a good highschool friend…you can sense it’s a difficult reality for him to grasp, but he easily slips into the music where he seems most comfortable. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing Treevahs again!

The bulk of the recordings that you’ll find here from me come from whatever recent shows I hit. From time to time I might take a stroll through my taping past and put up a show that I thought was memorable and good. It could be a show from a national act, like The Funky Meters, a more local act like Baby Aspirin. Or it could be a show that you would like me to upload to the Beatbots A/V Club. If you check out my blog, take a peek at my recordings and let me know if there’s something that piques your interest and I might upload it for you. I say might because, while all of the bands have given me permission to tape their shows, not all bands are comfortable with their shows showing up on the internet. Most recordings from An die Musik in Baltimore can not be put online, but most all recordings that I’ve made at other venues can.

If you have any requests, feel free to contact me (macroint) on the Beatbots message board, or thru regular e-mail at jm292@yahoo.com. Similarly, if there is a show taking place and you would like to ask me to tape it, send me a message, preferably as soon as the show is announced (I need to get permissions, if necessary, and make sure my taping schedule is free) and I’ll definitely see what I can do (this offer is only valid for shows that take place in Baltimore…don’t bother asking me to drive down to DC or up to Philly for a show). You can check out my current taping schedule (nothing is etched in stone) at my calender.

Thanks,

Jeff

NOTE: I’ve held off making this recording available until the band had a chance to listen. I’m not overly excited by the sound quality, but the band would still like to share the recording with their fans.

Earlier this year, Dr. Tuborg and the Crimson Vanguard released their debut cd, The Rise of the Fledgling. Personally, I thought it was the best album of 2007, local or otherwise…which is actually saying alot because I think we’ve had a bumper crop of excellent albums released in Baltimore this year. Check Double Dagger’s Ragged Rubble; The Dirty Marmaduke Flute Squad’s Die Humpin’; Celebration’s The Modern Tribe; Pontiak’s Sun On Sun; Bad Liquor Pond’s The Year of the Clam; Pariah Piranha’s Feel My Face Noise (ok, so they’re from York, PA…but Baltimore has claimed them as one of our own); Dan Deacon’s Spiderman of the Rings; Brian Adam Ant’s Separation Celebration; The Stalking Horses’ This Is Your Signal; and Thank You’s World City. I’m sure I missed others, but you get the point…this is a great time in Baltimore music and Dr. Tuborg is the cream of the crop (in my opinion).

I would suggest you catch their live show next time they come to your town, but like Bad Liquor Pond (Dr. Tuborg and the Crimson Vanguard is essentially Bad Liquor Pond with Tim Glinka…but the two bands couldn’t be more different), Dr. Tuborg doesn’t play much beyond the city limits. I really hope you enjoy this recording…the sound is excellent and the band is awesome.
